As most aquatics folks, I’ve been involved with water activities since childhood – Learned to swim in the Schyulkill River in Reading, PA, followed by lessons at the local “Y”, summers of boating and canoeing at Girl Scout Camp, earning Red Cross Junior and Senior Lifesaving, and Water Safety Instructor.

Pat gained her interest in Aquatic Management when working for the Camp Fire Girls camp in Iowa. She was so interested in Recreational Aquatics that she decided to double major in physical education and recreation in college at Iowa State. Pat Started her full-time aquatics career working for the YMCA,
I have been in the Aquatic field for over 50 years. I Started as a Red Cross Lifeguard in 1960 and became a Red Cross Instructor in Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid by 1966.
Vera started lifeguarding in Douglas Wyoming in 1983. She then moved to College Station, Texas to attend Texas A&M University. Vera is a graduate of Texas A&M University in Kinesiology with a Biology minor.
The 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented in January to Catherine “Rosie” Rosenthal, who has for many years been the mainstay of St.Charles (MO) Parks & Recreation.
The first E&A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Vera Vowell during the E&A International Aquatic Safety School of 2009.
Vera is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she received a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Biology. Vera is presently the Aquatics Supervisor for the City of College Station in College Station, Texas.
